Goodbye Summer Shoes...

Its starting to be consistently chilly here so its time to take off the 200 treadwear summer tires in preparation for winter.

Kinja'd!!!

And back to the original super 80’s triangle wheels! The summers are starting to get close to the wear bars too so I’ll probably be getting rid of these wheels and tires to go for a more aggressive setup in the spring time.

Kinja'd!!!

Surprisingly, though I was initially sad to take off the grippy shoes, I was actually loving it with the stock wheels with all season tires on it again. The Two’s attitude became much more playful and less serious. With the wider summer tires it would hold the road and rarely let go unless I was pushing it way harder than I ever would on the street (at autox). She was more than happy to let the tail hangout wide while bouncing off the 8400ish rpm rev limiter. Much smiles where had

That MR2 is clean and the 80’s wheels are fantastic.

Wheels and tires or just the wheels?

I have direzzas on my MR2 currently that are almost new, but if getting the worn ones off will be a hassle I can always have them swapped on my end.

Gotcha, if you don’t need the tires, then I’d prefer to pull them and sell them separately or keep them for spares/burnouts/dorifto/etc.

So how does $600 for just the wheels sound? plus shipping but I’m not sure how much that will cost.

I need to get some good winter shoes for my triangles. Probably need to get the car rolling first.

The thoughts of the soon to come road salt slowly trying to consume the car like a plague or cancer keeps me up at night....

Yeah. I'm glad that I don't have road salt.

Don't remind me of the salt to come! Every time I hear that ping ping ping sound of the salt rocks hitting my car during the winter, I slowly die inside. I am going to be washing my car like every 3 days lol.

I usually park the mr2 and drive my truck for the winter to avoid the road salt or to work on big projects/rebuilds, but I think I’m going to keep driving it. So I’m probably going to get a set of winter tires for the triangles. Then I can also use the winter tires for rallycross! better yet I might try my hand at ice racing if I can find a good spot for it

I might just drive it through an automatic car wash every day on my way to work and on my way home from work. Kinda like brushing my teeth. Twice a day to keep the plaque away!

I feel like those automatic washers are worse for the car than the salt is though. Haha that is a great way to think about it though. I really have to find a good car wash close to home. I always forget to search in the summer since I can just use a hose. But the hose doesn’t work too well in the sub zero temps.

Yeah, I’m not sure, at least this one carwash doesn’t actually use brushes or anything, just high pressure spray so maybe thats preferable.

Anyway washing a car in the winter is sooo terrible, my hands are getting numb just thinking about it

The best is when you spray a car down and the shady side not facing the sun starts to freeze. That is when you know it is a little cold to be washing your car with a garden hose lol.

I too swap out my summer rubber for winter tires when temps stay below 50*. The MR2 is an AMAZING snow car with the right tires.

Yep I’m thinking about picking up a set of Firestone Winterforce tires or something similar

I’m running steelies with some General Altimax Arctics. They were really inexpensive and did great last season. Just another option to throw in, if you’re looking around.
